Florence

Florence is an inviting and distinct sofa. The soft curves and symmetrical details of Florence's distinct shape pay homage to the Vieria motif in both macro and micro details. The railing, base and legs are in elegant wood with opulent, soft upholstery options for the base and bolster. An elegant Marblo by Markian railing adorns the top of the back timber rail.

Florence is the perfect inviting addition to a waiting room or hotel lobby. Florence's generous size and four seats make it the perfect addition to a waiting room or hotel lobby and allow it to double as a sleep option for guests.

  • Tretford Rugs by Markian are handcrafted and manufactured in Brisbane, Australia by joining colours from the Tretford ROLL carpet to create custom pieces.

Tretford carpet has exceptionally clean, elegant lines due to its unique construction using cashmere goat hair.

The natural properties of Tretford Rugs actively reduce airborne dust and allergens, promote energy-saving, and facilitate excellent indoor acoustics.

From the company’s foundation in the mid-1950s, Tretford’s focus has been utilising natural and renewable resources – which in today’s terminology means  using sustainable raw materials.

Produced in Germany and Ireland for over 50 years, Tretford carpets positively contribute to healthy living and working environments. This is largely due to its unique feature, Cashmere goat hair from the highlands of Inner and Outer Mongolia.

Tretford Roll & INTERLIFE Tile largely consist of this long top hair of the Cashmere goat, and also other renewable and recycled raw materials, for example, jute in Roll format, and 80% recycled polyester felt in INTERLIFE tile backing. This unique construction – with its distinctive structural corded look and proven quality – has established Tretford as a much-loved brand around the world.

The Tretford Rugs by Markian range is an extension of the range motif and carries with it the playfulness of colour combinations, the stark graphic delineations that separate but join and the shapes that combine it all together.

  • “Good design is good business.” - Florence Knoll.Florence Knoll’s life story is one of intrigue and empowerment. She grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, before being orphaned at 12 years old when both parents died early; it was by fate and chance that a foster guardian enrolled her at Kingswood School—a boarding school for girls that was part of the Cranbrook Educational Community - the legendary art, education, and museum campus whose chief architect, the world-renowned Finnish designer Eliel Saarinen, was also a teacher and president.Noting her talents and interest in the campus buildings, Saarinen and his wife, Loja, a textile designer, took Knoll under their wing. She also grew close to their son, Eero, who was seven years her senior, and frequently spent summers in Finland with the family. Knoll was 14 years old when she designed her first concept for a house, demonstrating an early aptitude in architecture. She studied architecture at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago (IIT), and spent a few years at London’s Architectural Association. She teamed up with furniture designer Hans Knoll, eventually encouraging him to expand into interior design. The couple founded Knoll Associates, and “With Florence’s design skills and Hans’ business acumen and salesmanship, the pair, who married in 1946, grew the nascent company into an international arbiter of style and design,” according to the Knoll website.Florence Knoll revolutionised the world of post-war office interiors. In 1964, a profile in the New York Times declared: “That revolution in the office took place 20 years ago, and Florence Schust (Schu) Knoll, the woman who led it, is today the single most powerful figure in the field of modern design.” Knoll “promoted the Modernist merger of architecture, art and utility in her furnishings and interiors,” remembers the Times, adding “especially — although not exclusively — for offices.”Florence Knoll humbly referred to her furniture designs as “meat and potatoes” — filler between the standout pieces of Bertoia, Mies, and Saarinen. Sixty-five years later, her furniture is anything but filler. Her attention to detail, eye for proportion, and command of the modern aesthetic resulted in some of the most celebrated furniture of the modern era.
